Mission

With the growing relevance of distributed renewable energy sources (DRES) in the generation mix and the increasingly pro-active demand for electricity, power systems and their mode of operation need to evolve. evolvDSO will define future roles of distribution system operators (DSOs) and develop tools required for these new roles on the basis of scenarios which will be driven by different DRES penetration levels, various degrees of technological progress, and differing customer acceptance patterns.

Innovative DSOs in a decentralised energy system

The four European associations representing electricity DSOs -- CEDEC, EDSO for Smart Grids, EURELECTRIC and GEODE – have gathered to highlight that investment in smart grid technology will allow DSOs to become central platforms for the energy transition by connecting responsive consumers, renewables and flexibility sources.

To encourage the development of innovative DSOs, the four trade associations reaffirmed the importance of a sound remuneration framework, better economic regulation and an adequate return on invested capital.
